The Multi-Storey Car Park is closing for four months on Tuesday 28 July 2015 till November 2015 for refurbishment. All users are to park at the Temporary Car Park, on the Main Entrance Site, during that period.

A Better Multi-Storey Car Park

While the Multi-Storey Car Park stays exactly where it is, we are giving it a thorough refurbishment. A proper, long term refurbishment. The result will be a cleaner, brighter, modern, safe and secure facility, with electrical charging points available for those who need them. A better car park for all those who use it.

Lush, living walls to the exterior are a beautiful, green and beneficial gesture to the market.

To achieve this, we need to move everyone out of the Multi-Storey Car Park for four months. We are sorry for the inconvenience this will cause, but we simply cannot do this any other way.

We are creating a Temporary Car Park on the Main Entrance Site, which will house all cars who currently park on the Multi-Storey Car Park. The information below explains exactly how this will work.

The Temporary Car Park

Location:

The Temporary Car Park will be on the left hand side of the Main Entrance, as you’re coming in to the market (opposite Bookers). We are re-surfacing this car park, where needed, and adding extra lighting and CCTV.

Who is it for:

If you have a permit to park in the Multi-Storey Car Park, you will park in the Temporary Car Park from 4pm on 28 July 2015 till the week commencing December 2015. You won’t be able to park in one of the main market car parks. Please remember, parking controllers do operate on site.

Getting in:

To access the Temporary Car Park, you will enter through the Main Entrance, with your tag, via the far left hand lane. Once in, you turn left into the Temporary Car Park, where parking bays are marked out.

Getting out:

To exit, you will turn left out of the Temporary Car Park and come down through the railway tunnel. Once through the tunnel, stay left and follow the new junction round to turn back on yourself, and out the market, via the Main Entrance. There will be clear signage to help guide you.

Walking to and from the car park via a safe pedestrian route:

We are creating a safe pedestrian route from the Temporary Car Park into the market. From the Temporary Car Park, you will walk over a Pedestrian Footbridge to cross the road, then along the pavement through the railway tunnel. You will then cross the road opposite the current Multi-Storey Car Park via the safe pedestrian crossing. We are increasing the lighting across this pedestrian route.

Moving back to the Multi-Storey:

In November 2015, after four months, we will be able to move cars back to the Multi-Storey Car Park. The refurbishment will still be going on until March 2016, however, the major works to the parking sections will have been completed.

Note:

As with the Multi-Storey Car Park this is for private vehicles only not vans or HGVs. There will be a height restriction barrier to ensure no oversized vehicles can use this route.

Diversions during works to prepare the Temporary Car Park:

In order to get the Temporary Car Park ready, including preparing the exit and pedestrian routes, there will be some vehicle and pedestrian diversions in place from Thursday 16 July. These diversion routes will be clearly sign posted.
